Pioneer Sailor
The story of John Reardon
Description
This is the story of a young lad from Kaikoura who joined the Royal Navy in November 1907 and traveled the world in his brief career.
When Australia established its own Navy in 1913 he transferred to that navy and volunteered for the submarine service.
When the submarine, while on patrol off German New Guinea on 14 September 1914, disappeared without a trace, he was the first New Zealander to die in the Great War, later referred to as World War 1.
After many searches the submarine was eventually found a century later.
This book includes some images of the wreck and probably cause of the sinking
